Description

The current expansion of renewable energy connected to the distribution grid, together with new standard generation and load connections requires new tools to organize and plan grid expansion.

Problem

ESO did not have one standard tool for long-term grid planning and evaluation of new connection requests.

Solution

ESO tested various solutions for electrical grid planning and procurement for a new tool was initiated.

The new grid planning solution is providing exact grid calculations:

• Load flow calculations and analysis;
• Short circuit calculations, protection device coordination module;
• Grid optimization tasks, the evaluation of optimal configuration in medium and low voltage grids.

Status and Progress

After testing and procurement Neplan solution was selected and is currently used for various engineering tasks in ESO.
