Ignitis Group has launched an open infrastructure initiative called the Ignitis Group Sandbox in which the group of companies provides free access to the infrastructure and data it manages. This enables programme participants to test new technology solutions in real-life conditions.
After assessing applicants’ needs, Ignitis Group will give them free-of-charge access to the relevant infrastructure and data. Where a connection to infrastructure is required, Ignitis Group specialists will determine an optimal testing location in Lithuania. Successful innovations can pursue further collaboration with Ignitis Group through our Open Funding and other initiatives.

Collaboration within the scope of the Ignitis Group Sandbox is purely non-commercial – in other words, participating technology companies will not be financially rewarded for their role. The relationship will be driven, rather, by common interests and valuable knowledge exchange, including possibilities to:
Ignitis group commits to provide:
The sandbox project is open to any company, technology startup, university or science centre which is involved in the design and development of innovative solutions for the energy sector.
Joining the Ignitis Group Sandbox project is easy. Just fill out the online application, specifying what equipment will be tested, what goals are being pursued, what infrastructure or data is needed, and what you expect to achieve.
In the application, don’t forget to tell us what makes your equipment unique, what benefits and competitive advantage it offers. Also assess what risks might arise during testing. You are welcome to include visual material.
After you submit an application, Ignitis group will contact you within several business days. The full evaluation process will take 2 to 4 weeks.
Selected applicants will be given the opportunity to prepare a pilot-project plan together with the Ignitis group team. The plan will specify the objectives, scope and testing timeline to be followed in the project. Once the project plan is ready, we will reconcile and sign a cooperation agreement. A contract template and sample project plan are available here. These documents can be adapted to an applicant’s individual needs.
After the contract is signed, Ignitis Group will arrange a kick-off meeting. We will be eager to hear more about your technology and its benefits, how it works, and how to install and operate it. During the meeting we will talk through the project plan, examining the tasks and equipment installation details.
Next will be actual installation. You will do the work yourself, but Ignitis Group’s team will be on hand and ready to help. Once the equipment is installed, testing and experimenting can proceed as per the project plan. It is important to use this time efficiently, systematically storing and analysing the resulting data. The maximum length of a project is one year. While testing underway, you should keep Ignitis Group informed about the progress.
At the end of your experiments, you should prepare a free-form report on the project and its results. During a face-to-face meeting at Ignitis Group (or online) you will also be able to present your results in person, telling us about the impact of your technology and how you achieved the project goals. We will share our insights and work with you to evaluate the possibilities for wider utilization of the equipment.
You are expected, with the help of Ignitis Group team, to disassemble your equipment and arrange for its removal from the site of the experiment. We also expect you to give us a feedback on the project to help us improve.
